origins

Donnie Heston was born into the Heston family of Emmanuel, West Virginia, an old Appalachian family with generations of accumulated wealth, occult knowledge, institutional connections, and a longstanding obligation to confront the supernatural forces haunting their community. The Hestons are not a chosen bloodline, however. Their legacy is built on people repeatedly choosing to inherit responsibility, marry into the family, prepare resources for the next generation, and refuse to abandon Emmanuel when doing so would be easier. His mother, Alma Heston, belonged to the Heston line. His father, Pierce, was a Southeast Asian immigrant whose family came from a former colony in the Malacca Strait. Donnie therefore grows up carrying both the deeply local identity of an Appalachian Heston and the immigrant history of his paternal family. As a child, Donnie was already reckless in the particular way that eventually becomes his vocation: when someone vulnerable was in immediate danger, he acted. One early incident involved him stealing a motorcycle to stop a young girl from being kidnapped by a cult. The act was illegal, dangerous, and completely consistent with the adult he would become—someone who believes rules matter, but not more than the person the rules are supposed to protect. At twelve, Donnie suffered a severe traumatic brain injury, including bilateral thalamic damage. The injury left him with chronic central pain and profound sensory-gating difficulties. His unusual perception of the world became entangled with his supernatural experience; he learned to perceive hidden seams, presences, spaces, and pressures that most people cannot. His later improvement represents adaptation and learned filtering, not a miraculous cure.In high school, Donnie played running back. He idolized Le’Veon Bell, and that influence became surprisingly important to the way he later fights and even practices law. He learned to wait behind the line, read the field, let defenders commit, identify the gap, and then accelerate through it. His instinct is rarely to attack first. He observes, tests, provokes, gathers information, and waits for the opening. He was also classically trained in liturgical music. Rhythm, phrasing, meter, and conducting became another part of his physical vocabulary. Donnie’s combat movements can shift in rhythm the way a hymn changes meter or suddenly resolves somewhere unexpected. His gestures are therefore not generic wizard motions; they combine athletic footwork, boxing, Heston survival training, liturgical rhythm, and conducting.Donnie eventually becomes a lawyer rather than a conventional occult adventurer. He maintains a private practice while accepting state and federal court appointments, representing indigent clients and people caught in the justice gap. He has sufficient inherited wealth that he can afford to take cases that pay poorly or not at all.His legal vocation becomes the moral center of his life.Donnie rejects the idea that rights belong only to good, innocent, likable, or respectable people. He sees himself neither as the arbiter of who deserves protection nor as someone whose power gives him moral superiority. His responsibility is defensive: given the wealth, education, supernatural ability, and institutional access available to him, he believes he is obligated to stand between vulnerable people and systems capable of destroying them. His supernatural ability develops along the same philosophy.

POWERS

Arguing is Donnie Heston’s term for his ability to present propositions, premises, or requests directly to reality. When an argument is accepted, reality temporarily or permanently alters itself according to the approved premise. To outside observers, the ability appears to be a highly versatile form of reality warping. Donnie does not view himself as issuing absolute commands, however. He understands the process as relational and consent-based: he submits an argument, and reality may accept it, reject it, modify it, or permit only part of the requested outcome.Donnie’s effectiveness does not depend solely on raw power. His greatest advantage is his creativity, precision, timing, and unusually strong rapport with reality. The scale of an approved effect often corresponds to the threat, the circumstances, the moral necessity of the request, and the strength of the argument being presented.Because Donnie habitually exercises restraint, he commonly operates below the level reality itself would allow him to reach.

APPLICATIONS

Spatial Manipulation
Donnie can submit arguments concerning space, including distance, position, direction, adjacency, volume, dimensional arrangement, and the spatial relationship between objects.
He does not necessarily generate a distinct form of “spatial energy.” Instead, he persuades reality to revise how space functions within the affected area.

Dimensional Architecture
Donnie can construct spatial environments that violate ordinary geometry.
Examples include:
Rooms larger inside than outside.
Never-ending corridors.
Recursive stairways.
Doors that return a person to the place they entered.
Interiors whose dimensions shift depending on direction.
Rooms in which distance changes between observers.
Non-Euclidean attack paths.
Structures whose exits no longer lead outside.
These environments may be used for defense, containment, misdirection, escape, or psychological warfare.

Telekinetic Simulation
Donnie can move objects without physically touching them by changing their spatial position, direction, or gravitational relationship.
This can resemble telekinesis and may be used to:
Lift or throw objects.
Restrain opponents.
Redirect projectiles.
Manipulate weapons from a distance.
Move debris as shields or ammunition.
Suspend targets in the air.

Teleportation
Donnie can relocate himself or another target by:
Compressing the effective distance between two locations.
Folding two points together.
Treating a distant position as immediately adjacent.
Creating a spatial loophole between locations.
Choosing to occupy a different available space.
Donnie may appear to step out of empty air, emerge from a fold in the environment, or simply arrive without crossing the visible distance between two points.

Portal Creation
Donnie can create openings between separated locations by temporarily connecting their respective spaces. These portals may appear as tears, seams, doorways, reflections, folded surfaces, or other spatial irregularities.
He can also connect surfaces that would not normally lead into one another, such as:
A wall leading into another room.
The underside of a table opening onto a ceiling.
A reflection functioning as a corridor.
Two distant doors becoming adjacent.

Spatial Compression
Donnie can pull space together, reducing the distance between selected points or objects.
Applications include:
Dragging targets toward a chosen location.
Crushing objects by compressing the space they occupy.
Immobilizing a target by folding the surrounding space tightly around them.
Collapsing a room, corridor, or battlefield into a smaller effective area.
Increasing the force of an impact by shortening the distance over which it must travel.

Spatial Expansion
Donnie can push space apart, increasing the distance or volume within a selected area.
Applications include:
Repelling attacks or opponents.
Generating cannon-like spatial force.
Launching objects by rapidly expanding the space behind or beneath them.
Creating sudden separation between combatants.
Expanding a small interior into a much larger space.
Preventing an opponent from closing distance.

Spatial Barriers
Donnie can protect himself or others by altering the space through which an attack must pass.
Possible barriers include:
Spatial exclusion zones that cannot be entered normally.
Folded boundaries that redirect incoming attacks.
Discontinuities between the attacker and the protected target.
Endlessly subdivided distance, making contact functionally impossible.
Closed pockets of space that isolate an explosion or hazardous effect.
These defenses may resemble invisible shields, although they operate by denying or altering access rather than absorbing force conventionally.

Subspace Creation
Donnie can create isolated or partially separated spaces.
These may be used for:
Containment.
Temporary storage.
Imprisonment.
Protecting objects or people.
Removing hazards from the immediate environment.
Creating compact spatial projectiles.
Isolating an attack before releasing or redirecting it.

Gravity Manipulation
By revising how objects relate to surrounding space, Donnie can produce gravity-like effects.
Applications include:
Increasing or decreasing effective weight.
Pulling objects toward a selected point.
Changing the direction of “down.”
Pinning opponents to surfaces.
Enhancing the force of his strikes.
Reducing his own effective weight.
Simulating flight or levitation.
Causing walls, ceilings, or distant objects to function as gravitational centers.

Physical Enhancement
Donnie can supplement his natural physical abilities by manipulating the space involved in his movements.
This allows him to:
Shorten the distance his fist must travel.
Increase the effective distance through which an opponent is launched.
Fold space beneath his feet to accelerate movement.
Reduce the distance between himself and a target.
Redirect momentum to improve balance or impact.
Simulate superhuman speed without physically moving at superhuman velocity.
For example, Donnie may run at an ordinary speed while continuously folding the distance ahead of him, producing an effect that resembles speedster movement.

Spatial Severance
If the situation justifies lethal or permanently disabling force, Donnie can separate portions of occupied space.
Applications may include:
Rupturing or erasing a selected area.
Destroying an object by separating the space containing its parts.
Removing limbs or organs through extremely precise spatial division.
Splitting structures without applying conventional physical force.
Disconnecting an attack from its source.
This application requires exceptional precision and represents a severe escalation. Donnie does not use it casually.

Donnie can submit arguments concerning the identity, structure, composition, state, or properties of a target. When approved, he can alter matter, energy, elements, objects, living beings, supernatural phenomena, or—in highly exceptional circumstances—conceptual properties. The transformation may be:
Complete or partial.
Temporary or permanent.
Reversible or irreversible.
Physical, chemical, energetic, sensory, or conceptual.
Limited to one property rather than the entire target.

Matter Transmutation
Donnie can transform one substance into another.
Examples include:
Metal into flowers.
Stone into glass.
Water into acid.
A projectile into harmless debris.
Solid matter into liquid, gas, or another solid.
Hazardous material into a safer substance.

Composite Transmutation
Donnie can combine transmutation with spatial manipulation. Being a sports nerd, though, Donnie described it as "setting up a play to set up a play".
Examples include:
Creating a tsunami-like wave and transforming its water into corrosive acid.
Folding a wall toward an enemy while changing it into a softer or more adhesive material.
Teleporting a projectile while altering its composition.
Expanding an area of air while converting its properties.
Opening a portal and changing what passes through it.
Compressing an object while making it brittle.
Separating occupied space while altering what remains.
This capacity to stack premises makes Donnie much harder to predict than a conventional elemental or spatial manipulator.

Biological Transmutation
Donnie may alter living tissue or biological structures, although his ethical restrictions make this one of his least casually used applications.
Possible effects include:
Repairing or reconstructing damaged tissue.
Temporarily modifying bodily properties.
Neutralizing poison through chemical alteration.
Changing the material state of a body part.
Transforming or removing harmful organisms.
Lethally altering organs or tissue when no lesser intervention is sufficient.

Gesture Arts
Gesture Arts describes the primary physical method through which Donnie performs Arguing. It is not a separate power or an additional utilization. Donnie uses deliberate bodily motions to frame, structure, time, and communicate his arguments to reality.
The size and complexity of Donnie’s gestures often correspond to the scale of the approved effect. Minor arguments may require a finger flick, breath, the turning of the wrist, a step, or a small change in posture. Meanwhile, large arguments might require sweeping arm movements inspired by various martial arts, conductor-like poses, and even full-body turns.Broad gestures often indicate that reality has already approved the premise and is actively cooperating with Donnie.
